Karema ( b. 1982, Yemen) grew up in Dubai and based in Liverpool. She learned to recognise various hierarchical structures as a result of the three changes she went through as a child. She uses ludicrous methods to produce serious art, mostly around political and social issues. Her work incorporates elements of language and humour and explores morphology and semantics in order to contradict interpretations. Karema uses common household objects along with other materials and machine parts to create conceptual artworks. She is particularly interested in the significance of the objects, and their relationship with language and Space. In addition to making sculptures, Karema enjoys experimenting with photography and filmmaking.
